Ferguson acquires Matera Paper Company

“This acquisition further demonstrates our commitment to the Commercial MRO industry.”

Ferguson has acquired Matera Paper Company, Inc. (Matera) in a stock transaction completed December 12, 2016. Matera is headquartered in San Antonio, TX and distributes commercial and industrial cleaning chemicals, supplies and equipment to facilities throughout Texas.

“This acquisition further demonstrates our commitment to the Commercial MRO industry,” said Ferguson CEO Frank Roach. “Matera has been in business for nearly 60 years and has a history of strong organic growth. They will be a great asset to Ferguson and our JanSan business in Texas.”

Founded in 1957, Matera is known as Texas’ premier facility supply experts. Its customers include hospitals, schools, universities, industrial facilities, contractors and private businesses. The company has approximately 250 associates and five locations in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Austin and Corpus Christi.

“Joining Ferguson will help enhance and strengthen our position in the industry,” said Matera President John Richardson. “We look forward to helping grow their Facility Supply business while providing our associates with additional resources and opportunities.”

Traditionally, Ferguson was known as a plumbing distributor. However, it has a strong foothold in the Commercial MRO industry through its Ferguson Facilities Supply business. Its broad inventory of MRO products coupled with its offering of appliances, plumbing, and HVAC and lighting products sets it apart from traditional facility suppliers. The company also has dedicated Commercial MRO shipping centers that can deliver many products next day to customers throughout the U.S.

Ferguson has acquired several MRO companies including HP Products in 2014. HP Products acquired Ship-Pac, a janitorial and packaging firm, in 2014 and PCS Industries, a JanSan company outside of Chicago, earlier this year.
